Description
Fish Biryani is a flavorful and aromatic rice dish made with pieces of fish, basmati rice, and a blend of spices. It is especially popular in coastal regions where fresh fish is easily available. Firm fish varieties are usually chosen so they hold their shape during cooking.
The rice is cooked separately until light and fluffy. The fish is gently marinated with spices, turmeric, and a little lemon juice, then lightly fried to add flavor and prevent it from breaking. A spicy masala is prepared using onions, tomatoes, ginger, garlic, green chilies, and whole spices such as cardamom, cloves, and bay leaves.
The fried fish is carefully mixed with the masala, and the cooked rice is layered over it. The dish is slow-cooked so the rice absorbs the rich flavors of the fish and spices. Fish Biryani is usually garnished with fried onions and fresh herbs. It is best enjoyed hot with raita, salad, or pickle.
