Description
Chow Chow Bhath is a traditional South Indian breakfast dish, especially popular in Karnataka. It is a combination of two different dishes served together: Chow (also called Chow Chow) is a sweet semolina (rava) dish, and Bhath is a savory semolina dish, usually Khara Bhath. The combination of sweet and spicy makes it a special and balanced meal.
To make Chow Chow Bhath, semolina is used in both preparations. For the sweet part, sugar, ghee, saffron, cardamom, and sometimes fried nuts are added to cooked semolina to make it aromatic and tasty. For the savory part, semolina is cooked with vegetables, curry leaves, green chilies, mustard seeds, and turmeric to make Khara Bhath. Both dishes are served side by side on the same plate.
Chow Chow Bhath is usually eaten for breakfast or brunch. It is soft, flavorful, and easy to digest. It provides both energy and nutrition, making it a favorite dish for children and adults. In Karnataka, it is also often served during festivals and special occasions as a traditional treat.
